WRITING IS UNDEAD: a fortnight of new plays

WHAT IS IT?
Writing is Undead is the sexy lovechild of Writing is Live and TWITS: three new plays, two weeks, one zombie-esque Upspace festival. We're looking to mount three full productions of new full-length plays in rep. Each show will get a $200 budget, a design team, and a day of tech time, a final dress rehearsal, and three performances in the PW Upspace.

WHEN IS IT?
Tuesday, March 10-Thursday, March 12: Each show gets a full day to use as they please to dry and wet tech
Friday, March 13-Saturday, March 14 (daytime): Each show gets a final dress rehearsal in the space
Saturday, March 14 (nighttime)-Wednesday, March 18: Performances! All three shows will run at 6pm/8pm/10pm (or so) on Saturday and Sunday, and then each show will get its own closing night Monday through Wednesday

HOW DO I APPLY?
Playwrights and directors should submit a full draft of a full-length play, along with a ~5 page proposal that addresses the following:

  • Describe your play in one or two sentences.
  • Why do this play here and now?
  • How do the two of you plan to collaborate?
  • What do the two of you hope to get out of bringing this play to a fully-fledged production?
  • Directors, what is your vision for bringing this play from page to stage?
  • How will you use your $200 budget?
  • What is your proposed rehearsal schedule? (Include any deadlines for revisions.)

You don't need to have any designers lined up—we'll take care of that—but you do need a stage manager.

Proposals are due Thursday, February 5th at 5pm. We're also having a schmooze on Thursday, January 29th at 11pm in the Upspace so directors and playwrights can meet each other!

WHO CAN I TALK TO FOR MORE INFO?
Simon, Skylar, and Ben would all be happy to answer any questions you might have!
