"Production Workshop Minutes"

6 november 2005

In attendance: Everyone but Todd and Hannah (oh, Chicago tech)
Visiting: Adam (grants), Cutter (grants), Sirin (3rd slot), Briel (MF/Chicago)

  • Adam: “postmodern scavenger hunt”. Asking for supplies from Home Depot/Staples. Whatever we can give him helps, up to $200
  • Cutter: English thesis project, a photographic novel. Wants anything we can give for printing and paper costs, up to $150. 4 books previously cost $30, and those were a little shorter. His advisor (Imbriglio) says it might be publishable when done.
  • Grants subcommittee will schedule and meeting and meet sometime this week.

  • Either Sasha or Briel will HM every night. 1 pw member per night.
  • Thursday: all invited to dress at 8.
  • Friday: Justin
  • Saturday 2: Alex
  • Saturday 8: Blair (and Elliot? We can only see it now)
  • Sunday: Ross
  • Monday: Brian

  • Is there any way we can get around the $25/night housing policy for winter break? I mean, athletes are already in the dorms! Grad Center and Miller stay open.
  • Blair will include a calendar heads-up in the email.
  • Calendar:
    • 1st slot: Feb 10-13
    • 2nd slot: March 10-13 (decision meeting Jan 28)
    • WITS: March 17-20 (decision meeting Feb 11)
    • 3rd slot: April 14-17 (decision meeting Feb 25)
    • MF: April 28- May 1 (“study break”)
    • Commencement decision meeting: April 8
    • First Slot of Fall decision meeting: April 15

Tod and I:

  • So many meeting planned for this week! First design run on Thursday at 9. All animation is being replaced with shadow puppetry, spearheaded by Jen Vafidis.
  • Still need an ME. Sirin will re-email Lou Boukiet.

First Slot:

  • Dan Risotto, Robin Zellman, Dan S?, Jed.
  • Jed wanted us to wait until the Hair cast list goes up. We're unsure if that will actually happen on Saturday, and Thanksgiving comes the next weekend, so we can't push it back.
  • Jed wanted to propose Metamorphoses. Alex: “No water! I'm not building it!”
  • Vision meeting is December 9 in the Downspace (COBAB is in the Upspace)
  • Blair staunchly defends the comfy couch against the onslaught of Garland (web editor's note: the couch is ugly, falling apart, and weighs 3,000 pounds!), while Brian derides the red couch, with “I always get the beam up the ass.”

  • nothing this week because of Chicago.
  • Hannah and Kaya will talk to COBAB soon about next semester so that they can open up the UpSpace calendar by December. Maybe tableslip.

New Members:

  • Apps due on Wednesday, meeting at 9 am in the UpSpace, with breaks around Chicago as needed.
  • Blair wants to discuss the soiree at the Vision meeting.

Space Maintenance:

  • A fuse blew in the shop earlier this week, but it's fixed now. So's the back stairwell. And the downspace doors. Cool. Our space works.

Empty Space: tabled.

  • Hillel asked us to support Rain Pryor coming to campus. It's either $10,500 plus accommodations and airfare for the performance, or $5,000 plus accommodations and airfare to speak.
  • We decide our purpose is to fund student-created art/students making art, so Blair will send them a polite rejection.
  • Elliot: “If anyone likes plays, you should read Naomi Iizuka.”

  • Best Todd jokes from prom:
  • “My friend Jordan thinks Todd is hot.”
  • How many Todds does it take to screw in a light bulb? Only one, but he'll complain a shitload about it.”
  • So Todd is standing on one side of a river, and a man is standing on the other side. And the man shouts to Todd, “Hey! How can I get to the other side of the river?” and Todd says, “You already are on the other side of the river!”

the PW board is: Brian Christian, Ross Cowan, Alana Jacoby, Hannah Lewis, Todd Lipcon, Garland McQuinn, Blair Nelsen, Elliot Quick, Alex Rosenthal, Kaya Schmandt, Justin Spiegel, Sarah Campen (on leave), Emily Drumsta (on leave), and Tess Lantos (on leave).
