3 Chairs 2 Cubes - Playwrights

Welcome to the 3 Chairs 2 Cubes playwright’s page! Below you’ll find the submission rules for the 3C2C festival of new plays.

Eligibility: All Brown undergraduate students on campus are eligible.

Due Date: TBA

Length: We encourage plays to be somewhere between five to twenty minutes long.

Number: We will accept no more than two previously plays from any one playwright.

Cast Size: We recommend that plays require fewer than six actors.

Production Values: If chosen, the play will be produced with only three chairs and two cubes as a set. There will be prop and costume support from PW’s stock.

Topic Guidelines: None.

Submission Rules: Five hard copies of your play need to be dropped off in the PW box office in T.F. Green Hall at 7 Young Orchard Ave. or in PW’s SAO mailbox by Monday, Sep 22. at five pm. Please do not submit a play that has been produced in the past or is scheduled to be produced.

Anonymity: PW requests that you submit your plays with a title on every page but WITHOUT your name on any page. With your hard copy, you must also submit a sealed envelope containing a piece of paper with your name, e-mail address, phone number, and the title of the play(s) you submitted.

Web Publishing: It is understood by all submitters that plays chosen for the 3C2C festival will be placed on PW’s website for download.

Judging: The plays will be read by a panel of PW board members. Chosen playwrights will be notified by telephone.

Once Chosen: While it is not strictly required, we strongly encourage writers to be as involved as possible in their production. Although they will not be able to pick directors, writers will be allowed to sit in on the casting sessions and on as many rehearsals as they wish to attend. We hope that part of this process will be the development of stronger writer-director relationships, and we are eager to create a collaborative environment. By allowing re-writes, we are hoping that playwrights will benefit by seeing their play work-shopped in rehearsal. Playwrights will be given access to a dramaturg, who can assist with editing, revision and polishing. Rehearsals will be scheduled by the director, cast and playwright. Prior to tech week, they may occur at any mutually convenient time (not necessarily between the hours of 7-11). Beginning tech week, all non-playwright participants will be needed between the hours of 6-11. Playwrights are also encouraged, but not strictly required, to attend.
